As many of you have seen and heard, on Thursday, April 26th, I was featured on the Today show! My ten-year-old daughter Molly and I were part of a segment with one of my mentors Nell Merlino to celebrate the empowering Take Our Daughters to Work Day, which Nell established nineteen years ago. Every part of our NYC trip was great – I got to show Molly around NYC as an insider (I lived there for seven years post-college), we were treated like VIP with car service and a great hotel, we had our hair & make up done (a girl could get used to that!), and even got to share some Baby Be Hip products with the great Today show producer, Patricia, and the style editor, Bobbie Thomas. We felt like celebrities!
If you missed the clip of the segment, you can watch it here. The entire trip was a fantastic experience. Molly & I went up a day earlier and went to Central Park! We watched a softball game, went shoe shopping, ate from some vendors, bought artwork, and did some sightseeing of Times Square, etc. She even decided she wants to move there after college (which makes me very happy)!
It was so fun to be where all the action was. The Today show hosts, Willie and Hoda, were very sweet and made conversation with us before the segment, which Molly said helped to ease her nerves. The producers had the timing down perfectly, and told us since the segment was just 4 minutes, we should just answer the questions without elaborating too much. We were off to get mic’ed and then it was showtime! They referenced the letter Molly wrote me at Christmas time (which I featured in a previous blog post) and Nell talked about the importance of Take Our Daughters to Work Day and empowering women, such as myself, to achieve success in their businesses. It was such a special day, especially sharing it with Nell and Molly. If I got the chance, I’d definitely do it again – I was able to learn a lot and am able to improve for next time. Once we left our “celebrity life” in New York, it was back to reality – 4 kids and a business to take care of! A special thanks to Patricia at the Today show and Nell, for believing in both Molly and I.
