Mine is…..Intentional. That’s my word of the year.
Have you declared a word of the year for yourself or your family? Or a theme?
One year, I declared that our family was going to start saying YES! to life and opportunity, and that made a huge difference for all of us (read more on that one here). This year, I am going with intentional, which for me means “done on purpose; deliberate.” I have often found myself saying that I had the “best of intentions” when things didn’t get done but obviously something was missing because I was saying it way too much.
Many of you know all too well that little ones can “hijack” your day, and with four little ones it happens to me all the time. That call from the nurse at 9:30am that your child is sick, that night you stayed up all night with your little one because of thunderstorms or bad dreams, or yet another snow day when kids are home unexpectedly.
I’m even guilty of hijacking my own plans when I stay up way too late, or have too many cocktails, or sleep in or spend too much time on the wrong things. Also, as a business owner, it is way too easy to get thrown into the day-to-day weeds and not work on the “right things” that will help the business grow.
I am trying to be aware of my “time sucks” where the time flies by and I didn’t get anything really done (like Facebook, working on the easy things on my to-do list, or responding to emails as soon as they come in). But now I am working on being even more aware and making plans to do what I really want to do so I can go to bed each night feeling good about myself and my day. I am going to work on accomplishing the things I really want to get done first thing in the morning, not only because I’m fresh and can be more productive but also so I can be okay when I get that call from school that a kiddo needs their mommy! If I have been intentional, in general, the hiccups won’t really matter and I’ll look at them as a welcome break!
So, here are some other examples of words that may spark something in you if you haven’t declared a word of the year yet.
- Joy
- Patience
- Confidence
- Bravery
- Strength
- Fearless
- Grace
- Love
- Discipline
- Less
- Growth
- Grateful
- Faithful
- Change
- Balance
- Optimistic
The list goes on and on. What do you think? Do you have a word of the year for you? Or maybe a theme? I’d love to hear about it, and remember, when you declare something to another it tends to hold you more accountable!!
Happy New Year and I hope it is one of your best years ever!
