What a feeling! I can color in my second eye on my Daruma Doll. You may recall back in January, I posted a blog about one of myfavorite Christmas Gifts—The Daruma Doll. I publicly announced (yes, a little scary, I know) one of my personal goals. It was,“By June of 2012, I will have greater balance in my life by taking better care of me. I will be exercising 3x’s a week and prioritizing me because I am worth it and my family will benefit as a result with a happier mom and wife. Win-win.” I had this posted on my computer so every day I was staring at it. Now, mind you, some days were better than others but since January, I have been pretty good about doing some form of exercise. On the days when I was exhausted because of sick kids or being up all night or just didn’t feel like it, I would at least do push-ups. That’s exercise, right?
So, now today, I get to color in the other eye on one of my dolls. I told myself that in order to be able to earn the other eye, I needed to complete a 5k in June. I did it last night. Now the conditions were a little difficult (96 degrees and humid) and I didn’t bring my music (obviously an amateur) but I made it the entire way without stopping. I used to run but have been off from running for at least 7 years so it was a personal accomplishment for me.
As many of you know, I strongly believe in community so it was fun to share the race with friends and family. My two sisters and husband ran as did some of my friends. I ran into lots of familiar faces and old friends too. It didn’t hurt that after the finish line, margaritas and burritos were waiting as well as live music. I think I can get used to this running thing. I don’t have that “runner’s high” (at all) but I have a great feeling of accomplishment. Now, I am looking for my next 5k so I can break my time.
As I have learned over the years, it is always best to post your goals and let others know what they are. My Molly (11) has checked up on me periodically over the months asking if I have been exercising as well as some of my friends that hold me accountable. I encourage you to put it out to the universe what you want to accomplish and then go for it. I am also the queen of the vision board so here is an image that is posted on my vision board that I looked at daily as a reminder of something I want to accomplish.
I hope you get out there and do something that you have been thinking about doing for a long time for you. It is true that if you first think of the feeling you will have when you are done, it will motivate you to take the baby steps. Share your goals with us below, and we’ll send the first 5 people a Daruma doll for you to get started on the path to achieving your goals!
