I have declared my Word of the Year! Have you picked your word of the year yet for 2016? I have, and this year it is going to be….. FOCUS! So, when I go off on a tangent, which I tend to do, please bring me back.
I know I have a “busy brain” and like to go, go, go…and usually that’s all good. Sometimes, though, it’s really hard to stay focused on the right things because it is so easy to quickly get off course. I’m not sure whether I get off course because I’m a busy mom of four kids with a full plate or I have untreated ADHD, but either way I know I need to work on my Focus. And this, I’m declaring, is the year I work on my focus.
I certainly know that what we put our intention and focus towards gets our attention. I am being very clear about what I want to do, be, and accomplish; if something fits with that I will move forward, and if not I will take a pass. I know it is going to be hard but it is something, I really, truly want to improve.
Last year, as I stewed over my lack of focus, a personal and business friend of mine, Vijay, gave me an acronym to help. As I spoke to him about my struggles trying to get it all done, he said to me “Col, WTF?” Now, I know what you are thinking…but it’s not that. It stands for, “What’s the Focus?” or ” “Where’s the Focus?” Often you’ll hear me say that to myself as I get distracted. Or my husband Brad will say, “Col, WTF!” And this WTF we can say around our kids!!
Recently, I listened to a podcast by John Lee Dumas and he touched on FOCUS. He uses that as an acronym for this: Follow One Course Until Success. Definitely easier said than done, but it’s worth a try.
